Livingston County is located in the southeastern part of the lower peninsula and is traversed by I-96 and US-23. The county contains 574 square miles and is the 41st largest in the state. The county seat is Howell. Approximately 35 percent of the land is in farms. Livingston County is well-known for its melons and holds a melon festival every year. A large portion of the population works outside the county which is situated about half-way between Detroit, the state's largest city, and Lansing, the state capital. Manufacturing in the county is dominated by auto-related sectors. Recreation activities include skiing, hunting, fishing, and boating. |
